*cough*. It's Party Search, aka Party Forming. An LFG system. Nothing to do with formations as you presented it, I'm afraid. Having said that, you have presented an interesting idea

As much as I enjoy DoA, our biggest frustration was error7 after hours.
OMG RECONNECTS I LOVE YOU A.NET and so on.

Nonono, they mean like a system that stops you from having to spam "Group lf 2x monk and SS necro!" all the time. It'll still be awesome, though.

First off: 3,000,000... congratulations! Guild Wars is rising fast indeed - and GuildWarsGuru follows the trend

Secondly: I'm very happy. Improvement of party forming and reconnects are just brilliant. ArenaNet is taking a giant step in the right direction. Thank you so much for listening to the community and working so hard to make this game even better!


@Gusnana1412: I think by 'party formation' they mean actually forming a party in an outpost, not the formation (square, box, circle, wedge, spread out, close together) of the party when exploring/fighting.

I'm just glad that this will finally help to eleviate the OMFG RAGE QUITTER! Not everyone rage quits and it will be nicer to know who IS and who isn't. I know that they've been working hard on this for a long time and now I see why. I think most of us would have been happy to just get back into the zone, but same spot as the party, thats freaking awesome!

I do worry about the bugs that come with ANY update so when its implimented I will wait a few hours before logging on just to see how the rest of the population is effected XD

Alex is wrong about one thing though, this can be potentially exploited via pulling your connection line out rather than closing the game or at least I would think so. Though I highly doubt too many will even bother going through that trouble seeing as how there is a 10min wait involved.

What can you exploit by going AFK for 10 minutes? Same thing w/ reconnects.

And also, there isn't a 10 minute wait, but rather a 10 minute window in which you can reconnect. If you can fire up the client and login in 10 seconds, then you will only be disconnected for 10 seconds. If you are having network problems and can't get connected for 10 minutes and 10 seconds, then the reconnect option will not be available.

I don't think the new reconnect system can be "expoited"... All you accomplish by pulling your cord is "going afk"... when can that possibly be beneficial?

(Other than something fickle like you need a quick break and don't want your party to know, so you fake a DC... I hardly consider that an exploit)

So, Merry Christmas to us.


After going through a brief period of frequent posting in Sardelac Sanitarium, I quickly began to doubt that A-net actually listens to players; the update is relieving. I suppose A-net has to prioritize, and among requests for game improvement, a party-search system and reconnecting after disconnection do contribute most to playing the primary game portion of Guild Wars.
And like so many others, I can't help but imagine what exactly the new party search system will consist of.....it's like a present sitting under the Christmas tree, and I'm left shaking the box, knowing what it probably is but wanting to know more...

Once you see the system working, you'll change your opinion. Firstly, as your character is treated as if you were AFK you will be vulnerable during the disconnect period.

Oh, and it's not a 10 minute wait. It's a 10 minute window of opportunity. If you get logged in again within 30 seconds you can be back in control of your character in that time.

Well that's what I meant and not at the same time. For those not wanting to be flagged as rage quitters but don't want to play any longer they would pull the router or connection line and be forced to wait out the 10mins before coming back into the game. If they reconnected before the 10mins was up they would end up back where they were so their "quiet rage quit" would be pointless lol. (Unless of course upon reconnect you are given a choice to reconnect to that area.)

My opinion on the reconnects is with complete love trust me on that XD

Edit: See Fender that's what I am wondering about.

It seems to work EXACTLY as how I imagined a reconnect feature would work.

It's been quite a while (two years?) since I had this same idea for reconnects, but better late than never!

Well from the looks of my question being avoided I'm concluding that the system won't grant us the completion of a mission if we disconnect right before our party wins.

Yeah I think it's pretty much stupid too, but ya never know... It would be the lamest "exploit" around, but some people do things like that. (Yes I have read way to many threads about griefers and had to deal with a few myself.) Overall though I would rather have it then not! I mean, this is the feature that I know we in this household have been BEGGING for! I remember the massive err7's that happened all day long and made it impossible to play, so I am cheering this 100%!
Like I said I would have been content just to get back into the zone, Anet has gone above and beyond my expectations for certain!

J snukka that is a VERY good question! I would assume it does since your character will be concidered AFK.
